Your chat space should fit into your home and feel comfortable to use. Focus on a seat, a clear work surface and enough room to move.
Choose a spot that works for you
Choose a place where you can sit comfortably and talk without frequent interruptions. Try the chair for a while: your feet should feel supported, and you should be able to change position easily. Leave enough space to get in and out without moving furniture each time.
If you share the room, agree when you can use it and how others can let you know they need you. A corner that is regularly available is more practical than a perfect-looking spot you constantly have to leave.
Keep essentials within reach
Set aside enough desk or table space for your device and your hands. Keep the things you use during a session close enough to reach without a long stretch. Move unrelated items into a drawer or a small storage box.
Keep water to one side, away from electronics. Route cables behind or beside furniture so they do not cross the path of your feet or chair. Leave room to move your legs and turn comfortably.
Choose a simple background
Pick one part of the room to use as your background. A plain wall or a tidy shelf can be enough. Clear away bags, laundry and extra packaging so the space looks intentional and is easy to keep tidy.
If you enjoy decorating, choose one or two details that feel like you, such as a plant or cushion. Start with items you already own. Keep the arrangement easy to move if the room also serves another purpose.
Try the space as you would use it
- You can sit comfortably and change position.
- The items you need are within easy reach.
- There is enough space for your legs and chair to move.
- Drinks are separate from electronics and cables are out of the way.
- You can use the space for the time you have planned.
Leave it ready for next time
After your session, return loose items to the same drawer or box and clear the work surface. If you share the room, leave it ready for its next use. A small, repeatable reset keeps preparation manageable. With your space arranged, move on to the lighting guide.
